Chronic kidney disease is a leading public health problem. Every day six new patients start dialysis with numbers expected to double by 2020. Over ~30,000 patients are currently on dialysis in Aust and NZ. In 1999 the Health Roundtable hosted its first ESRD workshop and the primary challenges of the past are to a large extent, those of the present. Renal services are encouraged to attend and share innovations and strategies to address issues such as how to:
- cope with an increasing ESRD incidence and dialysis population
- meet and sustain the required target for home dialysis
- improve planning and managing chronic renal care in a multi-site district setting
- improve continuity of care between primary and hospital sectors
- identify patients that can have dialysis prevented or delayed
