Documentation Specialists Aid in Increasing Revenue at WSLHD

Australia transitioned from DRG 7 to DRG 8 in July 2016. In response to this change Western Sydney Local Health Service (WSLHD) established a Clinical Documentation Service process and introduced clinical documentation specialists (CDS) throughout WSLHD.

As a result the NICU improved notional revenue by 4.3 million 12 months after introduction of clinical documentation specialists. Interestingly, the increase was sustained but required a permanent resource, as gains decreased when the CDS was on holidays
