Metro North Takes Action to Prepare for DRG 8
Australia transitioned from DRG 7 to DRG 8 in July 2016. In response to this change Metro North:
• Developed a systematic approach to sharing information and educating clinicians
• Initiated a 6 month project aimed at:
• Completing a HHS wide coding audit (approx. 1,300 separations)
• Analysing clinical complexity model and develop and deliver training sessions for clinical and coding staff
• Reviewing Coding Audit, Coding Education, and Coder Clinician Liaison resources and processes
As result of their efforts Metro North has:
• Completed investigations of: Antenatal & Other Obstetric Admissions, Neonate admissions, Electrolyte Imbalances
• Reviewed a number of unexpected findings in Diagnosis Complexity Levels (DCLs)
