Royal Perth Establishes a Patient Blood Management Standard of Care

Author: Sarah Brandt | Posted: 6/07/2016 | Views: 1083
At Royal Perth Hospital patient blood management (PBM) was lacking an established standard of care and KPIs. To improve care Royal Perth developed evidence based, point of care instructions that emphasised “one bag is best, then reassess”. They also established a PBM dashboard that was routinely shared with clinicians.

As a result Royal Perth reports:
• An increase in single unit transfusions
• A reduction in transfusion rates in elective patient groups
• A reduction in pre-transfusion haemoglobin
