Mid Central DHB’s radiology information systems (RIS) was reporting data retrospectively (weekly or monthly). Additionally, delays in access to data didn’t support capacity & demand analysis. As a result, the acute workload was unbalanced and resulted in patients waiting longer than anticipated.
To improve their utilization of data, Mid Central developed and implemented a daily operational report that includes:
• Daily predictions of demand and capacity by modality
• Number of exams completed – how many acute and elective compared with last year
• Number waiting by time & priority available
• Daily list of bookings for next two weeks identified
• Potential breeches identified and followed up
As a result, productivity has increased (but so have OP wait times), inpatient and ED wait times improved and scan rate/hour has increased. Additionally, all other modalities are now included in the daily operational meeting.
