At the Mater Hospital more and more women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus and <1% saw a dietician more than once.

In an effort to provide more patient centric care to expectant mothers The Mater developed a best practice model of care that:
• Increases dietician involvement and aligns with ADA recommendations
• Makes obstetric doctors “immediately” available to midwives, GPs and women during the midwife run antenatal clinic

As a result of the above, Mater Hospital now has a model of care that is more flexible and efficient and engages dieticians in GDM antenatal care according to ADA guidelines. This innovation makes best use of both clinicians and women’s time in clinic.
