Austin Health Implements a COPD Pathway and Reduces LOS

Author: Sarah Brandt | Posted: 6/05/2016 | Views: 1559

Austin Health was experiencing an increase in COPD inpatient separations. These patients were being treated by different specialists in different locations resulting in variation in care and a longer than desired average length of stay (ALOS).

To address the above issues Austin Health developed and implemented a standard pathway for COPD care – including suitability criteria for pathway utilisation and care delivery standards regarding antibiotic, oxygen and steroid use.

Since implementing the COPD Pathway a decrease in ALOS has been noted.
