Redland rethinks garbage to save money and environment – Innovation winner – Operational Performance

The problem with waste collection is poor rubbish segregation, especially in hospitals, leading to greater costs in confidential and clinical waste collection and bad recycling practices.

With orientation and refresher training failing in the past to impact on staff practices, Redland-Wynnum Hospitals approached the vexing problem of waste management in a simple and effective way which has resulted in impressive savings. They designed eye catching, easy to understand signage, complete with small coloured bins and explanations.
