Prince of Wales Hospital gets proactive to drop relative stay index

Armed with Health Roundtable data, the team at POW led by its Director of Operations Jon Roberts,  used the fact that they had a RSI figure substantially above their peers, to implement changes for improvement. They saw this as an opportunity to engage clinicians in Managing LOS across the full patient journey, ED to Discharge. With Clinical Executives and Clinical Department Heads taking leadership, there was an emphasis placed on the Discharge capability of the whole organisation with a sustained focus on Emergency Department roles, processes and practice.

Over a 12 month period, they recorded a significant drop in their RSI to 95%.
