Monash achieves 50% reduction in wait times for chemotherapy
Monash Health Service was
experiencing increasing demands for chemotherapy services, and their Chemotherapy
Day Unit (CDU) and inpatient services were struggling to meet the demand of
patient requirements. Wait times for patients was in excess of 3 weeks.
In response, the team at Monash
developed a telemedicine model of collaboration between CDU, Oncology and HITH,
to provide a flexible model of care that safely delivers chemotherapy
for all suitable patients in the convenience of their own home. Since
implementation they have recorded a 50% drop in wait times to 10 days. Patient
surveys have revealed reduced anxiety and travel expenses plus the benefit of
being able to participate in the management of their own condition.
