Thought Starter – Prof Stuart Smith is the Business Development Coordinator at Southern Cross University (See Bio)

Throughout the world, traditional systems for provision of goods and services are

undergoing significant transformation through the use of technologies that

empower and connect an increasingly mobile population of consumers. Uber is

redefining taxi services without owning any vehicles, AirBnB makes more beds

available per night in any major city than hotel chains without a single bricks and

mortar asset, Alibaba sells a greater number of products than many, if not all, retail

chains without owning a single store, let alone warehouse, Netflix and other

streaming media services have seriously impacted upon free-to-air television and

video-rental businesses.

Stuart will provide an overview into the ways in which consumer-driven technologies can transform the delivery of sub-acute care. He will refer to examples from his own research and outline a strategy for innovation in the sector.

10.30 – 11.00am

Morning Tea

11.00 – 12.30pm

Solving burning platform issues for delivering effective services into the future. Teams to develop their action plans and then identify barriers to implementation. These barriers/roadblocks to implementation will then be reviewed by all and discussed.

12.30 – 1.30pm

1.30 – 3.00pm

Team Action Planning: Participants will work with their own health services team to refine the Aim Statement and Action Plan based on the good ideas heard. Teams to present their plans to the group. All plans will be placed on the wall for general improvement/discussion/suggestions by other teams. Teams to input into our online system the key issues/things they need help with around their Action Plan
