Thought Starter – Prof Stuart Smith is the Business Development Coordinator at Southern Cross University (See Bio)
Throughout the world, traditional systems for provision of goods and services are
undergoing significant transformation through the use of technologies that
empower and connect an increasingly mobile population of consumers. Uber is
redefining taxi services without owning any vehicles, AirBnB makes more beds
available per night in any major city than hotel chains without a single bricks and
mortar asset, Alibaba sells a greater number of products than many, if not all, retail
chains without owning a single store, let alone warehouse, Netflix and other
streaming media services have seriously impacted upon free-to-air television and
video-rental businesses.
Stuart will provide an overview into the ways in which consumer-driven technologies can transform the delivery of sub-acute care. He will refer to examples from his own research and outline a strategy for innovation in the sector.
