The theme for the 2016 workshop is ‘Maternal obesity and improving the management of women with gestational diabetes mellitus’. By learning about screening, surveillance and vigilance, the risks associated with maternal obesity can be better managed.  More information click here

Health Roundtable reports show that on average across all members one in ten women who deliver in hospital are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, varying from 3 % to 23% across members.

Setting the Stage – Identifying and/or developing the burning platform issue that necessitates change for improving the care of women who are obese and those with gestational diabetes – A/Prof Glyn Teale, Clinical Director, Women’s and Children’s Services, Western Health, Vic.

Glyn is a key researcher and contributor to the understanding of the impact of maternal obesity on the outcome of pregnancy and birth for mothers and babies.  He will be talking about these challenges and his approach to minimising the risks of obesity and GDM in a busy public health setting.

Setting the Stage – Second working session - the burning platform

Key insights from comparative data presented by HRT staff.  Team discussions:

·       What has been identified from this morning’s presentations?

·       What is the burning issue(s) for my hospital/network/DHB?
