2015 Costing Review Meeting
The Health Roundtable is holding its annual Costing Group Review Meeting on 5 & 6 March 2015 in Brisbane to review Costing data and peer comparative reports from the 2013/14 financial year. The meeting will continue with the theme of last year focussing on Using Costing as an effective Management Tool to improve efficiency and quality in Health Service Management and Patient Care.
We are fortunate to have again secured the services of Mr James Downie, Executive Director, Activity Based Funding, Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA). James will speak on the latest issues in pricing and costing affecting System Managers and Health Services in the first “live” year from 1 July 2014 and answer questions on any aspects of ABF implementation and policy.
The Clinical Costing Program will review and discuss benchmarking reports across the patient journey from ED through acute and sub-acute Inpatients to Outpatients. Again we welcome your input into how we might improve our reporting and analysis to maximise their value to you. We will compare the 2013/14 cost data submitted by Roundtable members to help you identify “Million Dollar” opportunities for improvement based on the costing comparisons.
Our major focus will be on how Health Services are using costing and utilisation information as a management tool to improve efficiency and quality patient care. We want you to discuss and share your experiences and innovations with your colleagues in March. To this end, we request each Health Service to prepare a short PowerPoint poster on any initiative involving costing or utilisation data that is making a difference either by way of accessing reports, reducing cost/waste, improving efficiency or improving quality of care.
We have deliberately kept the theme broad to encourage participation. This is an excellent way to promote discussion, networking and innovation.
