2012 participants to report back followed by discussion in small groups to capture learnings.

Overview of Nursing-Related Indicator Reports:

We will review 5 key indicators from the report circulated to you before the meeting and identify exemplar performers.

You will have the opportunity to hear what the exemplars are doing differently.

Keynote presentation - Nursing initiatives to improve staff & patient outcomes:

Prof Di Twigg, Professor of Nursing, Edith Cowan University. Di's research interests are:

  • Patient outcomes and nursing services.
  • Development of evidenced based staffing methods.
  • Safe assimilation of support staff into the clinical workplace.
  • Patient and staff outcomes in Magnet designated organisations.
  • She will tell you about the evidence behind the various approaches to improving patient and staff outcomes through nursing related activities.

 Di's session will be followed by a facilitated discussion.

Sharing Key Nursing Initiatives to improve staff & patient outcomes:

Each Health Service to highlight one key initiative implemented in the last 2 years related to improving patient and staff outcomes. 

Selected presentations will be delivered to the group.

Hospital Team Huddle: What have we learnt? 

Hospital teams will have time to discuss and consolidate learnings from the day, identify best practice and improvement opportunities to take back to your Health Service.

Keynote presentation: Safe Staffing Healthy Workplace

Jane Lawless is Director of the Safe Staffing Healthy Workplace Unit. 

This unit helps New Zealand District Health Boards match patient's requirement for care with nursing levels at the right number and skill mix to deliver it safely while at the same time meeting nurses’ expectations that their workplace will be healthy and management's expectation of efficient operations.

Jane will tell you about the impact of implementing the initiatives in 20 DHBs in New Zealand.

Jane's session will be followed by a facilitated discussion.

Review of Hot Topics from Survey:

We will share ideas, innovations and best practices across the Tasman.

Separate New Zealand and Australian groups:

Regional differences mean that we will give you an opportunity to discuss YOUR issues with your colleagues in country based groups.

Special Hot Topic:

Reducing turnover and sick leave - Nursing Workforce Retention Strategies.

In your teams you will develop an Aim Statement & Action Plan of the one key idea/strategy you would like to implement in your Health Service.

Concurrent Workshops:

Gaining Traction with Health Roundtable data

Are you new to Health Roundtable data & reports? 

Join Bernie Mullin & Aman Dayal for a session aimed at improving your understanding of your nursing related indicator reports and discuss practical issues on how to gain traction with the data in your service.

Safe Staffing Healthy Workplace:

Jane will deliver a more detailed workshop session on the Safe Staffing Healthy Workplace program running in 10 District Health Boards in New Zealand.
