1-Day Workshop

Learn how to develop your Operational Plan to meet your Activity Based Funding targets using a simple spreadsheet model.

Workshop Outline (9.00 am to 4.15 pm):

Morning: Quick overview of how to work within an Activity Based Funding structure. 

Paul will share experience of Payment by Results from the UK (similar to Activity Based Funding).

Introduction of ABF operational planning model.

Afternoon: Workshop to apply the model to your hospital’s targets in a selected clinical specialty with individual coaching.

Introduction of further tools and techniques to assist you in planning of your services. 

Participants are encouraged to bring their own data/problems with them to work on during the day.

The Health Roundtable will supply a template with your actual data for 2010/2011 and you should bring your activity results through October 2011 on a laptop computer.

Please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as there is a limit of 12 people per Workshop.

Delegate Registrations may be cancelled up to 15 November 2011, with a full credit of monies paid. After that date, no credits are possible. However, you may substitute a different person for those registered at any time. Hotel/Venue and airfare arrangements are separate, and may have different policies regarding cancellations and name changes. Please contact them directly.

Introductions – aims of the workshop:

  • The importance of data and information for everyone in running a healthcare system.
  • Comparison of the UK – “Payment by Results” system with Australian “Activity Based Funding” systems.

 10.30 – 11.00am

Break

11 – 12.30pm

The Health Roundtable ABF model, its aims and operational use.

Exercises to use the model live during the workshop to create operational plans.

 12.30 – 1.30pm

Lunch

1.30 – 2.45pm

Further work on your own ABF model.

Tutorial on simple Excel tools and techniques to assist in the quick analysis of operational data.

2.45 – 3.00pm

Break

3.00 – 4.15pm

Coaching on individual problems that you have brought along to the session.
