Welcome and Introductions – Staff new to The Health Roundtable

Introduction to Roundtable concepts and measures:
  • Honour Code
  • Identifying peers and exemplars
  • Fractional Length of Stay
  • Relative Stay Index

Overview of The Health Roundtable Website and standard reports:

  • Casemix, Emergency Department & KPI Reports
  • Screening Reports
  • Customised Briefings and Departmental Reports
  • Mortality Reports

Review of optional reports:

  • Patient Safety/Nurse-Sensitive Indicators
  • Maternity
  • Allied Health

Welcome & Roundtable Overview

A quick introduction to the Roundtable. This session will cover concepts such as Relative Stay Index (RSI), Top 5 DRGs, Inpatient Briefing Reports, ED and KPI reports and Mortality Reports.

9.30am – 10.30am

July-December 2010 Casemix and ED data – Victorian Chapter Perspective – trends and analyses

We will review the latest Casemix data and trend analyses, using only Victorian peers and exemplars, to identify new improvement opportunities.

10.30am – 11.00am

New Projects Discussions – Meeting COAG Targets

We will present existing measures that compare Victorian data on performance against COAG targets for Emergency and Elective Surgery for group discussion of the data measures and possible improvement opportunities.

We will also explore updating our definitions to match key measures such as:

  • Emergency – 4 hour clearance for selected Triage Cat 1 Patients
  • Elective Surgery – Category 2: 90 day limit

12.00 – 12.30pm

Other New Project Suggestions

Following cessation of Department of Health involvement in the Group, delegates will be asked to propose and discuss new, Victoria-specific, improvement projects for 2011 either individually or as a collaborative. Examples might include:

  • Preparations for National Health Reform and Activity Based Funding
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Non-inpatient Care

Or other Hot Topics may be proposed and discussed by members.

Group discussion and project selection.

Poster Session

Health Services to prepare Lessons Learnt PowerPoint for display highlighting actions taken to improve clinical care and reduce length of stay over the last 12 months. Posters will be selected by delegates for presentation in the next session based on most significant progress and best results.

Selected Poster Presentations

Posters selected by delegates will be presented and discussed in more detail to learn the secrets of their success.
